PURCHASES AND COMMISSIONS

I don't really consider myself a commercial illustrator, although I do occasionally take commissions for things like album covers, tattoo designs and portraits. Keep in mind when you're considering hiring me that I'm going to work in mediums that appeal to me, and in my own style. If you want an exact likeness, you'll probably want to go with another artist. I used to do portraits that were basically just replications of photographs, and it was very boring. I really only like to work with themes that are of interest to me. I can work with any idea that you have for your illustration, but it will be done according to my style and preference.

The following is a basic list of prices for illustrations. You should know that I've begun charging a $35.00 consultation fee, which will be included in the price of the piece, should you decide to hire me. I've had to start doing this because I've run into a few problems recently with people calling themselves potential customers, but really they just want to meet me for whatever reason and have no intention of hiring me for anything. It isn't entirely necessary to meet in person before commissioning me to do a piece, but if it's something you insist on doing, I need the consultation fee so that I know you're serious about it and not just trying to find out what I look like.

Album cover: $125.00 (logo not included)
Tattoo design: $100.00
Portrait (16"x20") $350.00
Flyer: $100.00
Book cover: $250.00
Magazine cover: $300.00
Ad illustration $150.00

Things I'm not so sure about:

Mural: I want to say $700.00 - $3,000.00 depending on the size, but let me be clear: I'm not one of these guys who does faux finishes or trompe l'oeil. Those guys are a dime a dozen. You can find them on Craigslist, or better yet, go to the Home Depot and learn how to do it yourself. I'm not going to give you a phony view of some vineyard on your kitchen wall. I do not paint with the intention of increasing your property value.

Web design: You don't want me to build you a website, trust me. I'm a dinosaur. I built my first James B. Hunt Studio website in 1995 using information I obtained from "HTML For Dummies". I was on top of things for the few years that followed, but the HTML that I'm familiar with is now largely obsolete compared to what's out there today. Thankfully all the major browsers are capable of recognizing it, and that's the only reason you're able to read this. I built this thing by typing simple code into a program similar to notepad and then refreshing a browser every few minutes to make sure it isn't upside down or backwards. There are much more capable people out there willing to design you a website that will do all kinds of interesting things and exceed your expectations. My websites don't move or blink. They just kind of sit there and hold information. If that's all you're looking for, I'll build you a very dull website similar to this one at $150.00 for three pages and then $30.00 for each additional page. But trust me, you don't want that.

Or maybe I should just be quiet and stop trying to discourage you from giving me money.
